On September 11th, CYRENZH organized an event on “Human Factors in Cybersecurity” at the University of Zurich. The event brought together 40 participants from both industry and academia, fostering insightful discussions on the challenges and opportunities in understanding and improving cybersecurity behavior.
The afternoon began with a warm welcome from Dr. Melanie Knieps (CYRENZH) and Prof. Dr. Nico Ebert (CYRENZH), followed by three expert-led presentations. Rico Müller (KESSLER & CO AG) shared findings from an analysis of over 90 cyber insurance cases in Switzerland, shedding light on the causes of cyber incidents and preventive strategies for organizations. Thierry Schaltegger (ZHAW) explored decision-making during cyber incidents, focusing on how intuition and experience play vital roles for security experts. Finally, Dr. Benjamin Ambuehl (ZHAW) presented methods for measuring and changing cybersecurity behavior within organizations, offering actionable insights on how to promote safer practices.
The event concluded with a networking apéro, where attendees had the opportunity to exchange ideas and further discuss the presented topics. The mix of academic research and practical industry perspectives made the event a valuable experience for all involved. CYRENZH looks forward to continuing this important dialogue and fostering collaboration between industry and academia.
